How to Compare Medicare Advantage Plans: Part 3

If you’re just getting started with "Day 2," head to Parts 1 and 2 of this series to make sure you’re not missing out on important things to look at when comparing MA plans.

Stars Explained:

Star ratings are perhaps the most underutilized resource when it comes to comparing 5Star_icon_for_blog_3.pngMA plans. Medicare offers you an unbiased view of Medicare plans in your area through the Star Ratings System. Star ratings are given out each year by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the government body that oversees Medicare. A plan’s rating is based on over 50 quality and performance measures. After the review process is complete, CMS awards plans a Star rating from 1 to 5, with 1 being the lowest and 5 being the highest.

As a general rule of thumb, the higher the rating, the more time a plan likely puts into member satisfaction, customer service and keeping their members healthy. Head to www.medicare.gov to easily compare how plans near you rate.
